Hello and Welcome! The California Gourd Society is a non profit charitable organization dedicated to providing the cultivation, education and fabrication of hard shell gourds to all whom are interested. We are Farmers, Artists, Gardeners, Crafters, Gourd Enthusiasts, Teachers and individuals who want to see the history and future of the “Hard Shell Gourd” preserved.
We welcome you and encourage you to join the California Gourd Society or CGS as we so lovingly say.
The California Gourd Society is also a state chapter of the American Gourd Society and works in conjunction with AGS to promote gourd enthusiasm.

The California Gourd Society.
Our Beginning
Established in 1997 and incorporated with the American Gourd Society in 1999, CGS is made up of 12 satellite “Regional Gourd Groups” located throughout California and includes approximately 300 members.
Our Mission
The California Gourd Society supports the growing, creativity, and appreciation of hard shelled gourds (lagenaria). The society provides charitable and educational activities to members, growers, artists, crafters, business people and the public through community support and education.
Get Involved
If you live near one of our regional gourd groups, get involved. We accept volunteers regardless of skill level. There is a rotation in roles, but we’ll teach you all the skills you need to know. Youth 17 years and younger can participate in CGS competitions at no charge.
